The first of the year is a very busy time, here at MDSD. First of all, we co-host an Artist Series concert with the good folks at Troy-Hayner Cultural Center. Our featured Artist this year was Dave Haas, and his concert was extremely well -received. So many folks showed up, that many of them were just listening to the concert from the staircase outside the hall. Dave wowed the crowd with his fine dulcimer playing, and was joined on stage by Joe and Chris Steiner on guitar, banjo and bass. What a night!
The following day, the famed Ohio weather caught up with us and a big snow hit, but dulcimer players are a hardy bunch. and nearly everyone who had signed up for classes from Dave Haas were able to get there. We got so many wonderful reports about the classes. Thanks Dave!
Now….the biggest event of the year for The Mountain Dulcimer Society of Dayton…. DULCIMER DOIN’s on Feb 1,2,3 2019!! People will be packing their cars, vans, trucks, and possibly campers, with pretty much every instrument they own, and heading North to Maria Stein, Ohio for a weekend at Dulcimer Doin’s. This retreat-style event has been sponsored by MDSD for 38 years! It’s a laid-back, friendly gathering, with plenty of time to visit with old friends and make new ones. There are workshops, but not so many that you can’t find time for a quick nap or getting together with a group of pals for a jam. We have the whole building, at the Spiritual Center in Maria Stein, to ourselves, so there’s plenty of space to shop, visit, play or rest. In the evenings, there is Club Showcase, where all the visiting clubs can perform…..and Open Stage, where any and all of the participants can get some stage time. It’s a great bunch of people who come to Dulcimer Doin’s, and something you don’t want to miss. But if you have missed it this year, please start planning now for Dulcimer Doin’s 2020!
